“Effectiveness of Florida DCF Parenting Test Passed by Dog Questioned”

The headline is misleading: the dog was only given a certificate of completion for an online parenting class. There was no test, as far as I can tell. This is not to disparage canines, by the way, who quite frequently parent very well.

In Miami-Dade we use “evidence based” parenting classes, which means that the participants are given a pre- and post-test. The problem is that any reasonably intelligent person can score fine on the pre-test, and the post-test and class are rendered meaningless. Psycho-educational classes are only worthwhile to those who lack information. A multiple choice test on American history does not make you George Washington.
